Warhammer Primer for Tapestry Players

As you may by now have figured out, Tapestry is based on the Warhammer System, liscensed from Games Workshop UK. If you are not familiar with Warhammer, some of the terms and game mechanics may not make sense to you, and if you are familiar with Warhammer, there may still be some things unique to Tapestry that you are confused about. As a result, I wrote this primer to answer frequent questions.

Warhammer units have a series of statistics, which can be viewed in the unit statistics window:

- The M statistic refers to movement. A unit can move m/4 squares on a given action.
- The WS statistic refers to the units weapon skill, which affects how easily the unit can hit.
- The BS statistic works just like WS, except that it affects ranged combat.
- The S statistic refers to strength and affects how likely the unit is to wound another unit.
- The T statistic refers to toughness and affects how easily the unit is to wound in combat.
- The W statistic describes how many times a unit can be wounded before it dies.
- The L and I statistics describe the unit's leadership and initiative abilities, which are used in complicated maneuvers like charges.

During Warhammer combat, a unit first rolls 1d6 to test if it hits, and compares the dice roll to a hit table that plots attacker WS versus defender WS. Next, it rolls another 1d6 to test if it wounds, and compares the second roll to another table plotting attacker S versus defender T. If a hit and wound are made, the defender take one wound. Once the defender gets more wounds than its W value, it dies.

That's it for this article. For other information about how to actually play Tapestry, check the "Playing Tapestry" guide, written by Derek Janisch.
