A Quick Overview of Skirmish
Skirmish is a very complex game with a large world and an
extensive plot. The following guide, however, will present a very simple,
"quick-start" guide to playing Skirmish.
-
After starting Skirmish, you will be presented with the
startup screen and main menu. After configuring your character, click
"Start Game" and the game will load (this may take a minute depending on
your computer).
-
Once the actual game loads, your character will spawn in
the Skirmish world, at the location you specified when configuring your
character. At this point, you are playing the role of a character in an
epic kingdom.
-
Once you have explored the world, you can begin to
participate in the game's extensive plot. The plot will take you on
adventures, information about which will appear on-screen in the form of
blocks or paragraphs of text.
-
During your travels and adventures in the Kingdom
of Gilgolath, you will often encounter other characters, roving bands of
orcs, and even entire enemy armies at times. At this point, you will
often engage in combat.
-
To move and strike with your sword or other weapon,
simply move your mouse. The Skirmish game engine will read your
mouse movements and execute melee combat maneuvers based on
them.
-
To switch which weapon you are using, just press the
Ctrl key. If you select a bow as a weapon, you must use it
differently than swords and other melee weapons. Rotate your body
(with the arrow keys) to aim, and fire by pressing the mouse button.
Also, note that you have a limited number of arrows.
-
Since Skirmish has a reasonably long and developed plot,
you will most likely not want to play it all in one sitting. If this is
the case, you can save your game by pressing the "S" key. To
load your saved game, begin a new game. After the game has started press
the "L" key and your previously game will be loaded
expediently.
-
To exit Skirmish, simply press the Esc
key.
Skirmish Release Notes
-
Skirmish requires a large amount of RAM and processing
power.
-
As a result of this, it may take a long time to load on
slower systems.
-
Also, there may be a short delay when the game switches
soundtrack tracks.
